New 25p supermarket has to close after it runs out of stock

The supermarket expects to re-open on Friday.

BRITAIN’S NEW EASYFOODSTORE, the latest venture of tycoon Stelios Haji-Ioannou, has had to close its doors temporarily after it ran out of food.

The budget supermarket, which opened in London on Tuesday, was selling every item in the shop for 25p as part of a temporary promotional offer.

In a statement released on Facebook yesterday, the store team said that they would remain closed for today as they had run out of supplies:

easyGroup and the team at easyFoodstore regret to announce that we will remain closed for one day tomorrow 4th of February and expect to open with business as usual on Friday the 5th of February at 9am.
Unfortunately our usual suppliers are unable to meet the demand in order to restock the shop again fully until Friday.

The team behind the supermarket, which is part of the EasyGroup brand which includes budget airline EasyJet, said that the closure was due to the “huge publicity that our 25p promotion has attracted.”

“[W]e have had queues of customers coming to shop today 3rd of February and hence we sold out all our stock of food items today,” they said.

The supermarket is located in Park Royal, northwest London, and is offering about 80 items for 25p each throughout February.
